Get your tickets for final report of TRC: December 15

We can plan to have a presence at the December 15 release of the TRC’s full and final report. The event will occur at the Shaw Centre (formerly Ottawa Convention Centre) in Ottawa and it’s possible to buy free tickets to attend it.
Only those with tickets will be allowed to enter this final, public TRC event, so get your ticket online. The event will also be broadcast via live streaming on December 15, 2015.
What is the value of attending this event and speaking to other attendees? The federal government has committed to adopt all calls to action of the TRC, which includes #78:
“We call upon the federal government…to develop a reconciliation framework for Canadian heritage and commemoration. This would include, but not be limited to:
i. Amending the Historic Sites and Monuments Act to include First Nations, Inuit, and Métis representation on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and its Secretariat.
ii. Revising the policies, criteria, and practices of the National Program of Historical Commemoration to integrate Indigenous history, heritage values, and memory practices into Canada’s national heritage and history.”
This call to action has a bearing on the call for support issued by Algonquin First Nations seeking protection of the sacred site Akikodjiwan and creation of an Algonquin Nation cultural park and historic commemoration site under an Algonquin controlled institution.
In a similar vein, feel free to respond to the NCC’s call for 17 BIG ideas to make the capital a better place. The NCC is saying it wants help from the public “to identify 17 major milestone projects that will transform the Capital over the next 50 years.”
