Rally before the OMB hearing August 17

Supporters of five appellants will gather on the morning of Monday, August 17 in downtown Ottawa before walking to City Hall for the continuation of a pre-hearing before the Ontario Municipal Board. The OMB pre-hearing will start at 10 a.m. in the Keefer Room of City Hall.

The appellants’ case against the City of Ottawa and its consultant, Windmill Development Group, is based on the Oct. 2014 rezoning by the City of Ottawa of Chaudière and Albert Islands from parkland to commercial/residential.

8:40 a.m. – Opening by Albert Dumont

8:55 a.m. – Drumming

9:00 a.m. – World Truth Speakers Posse

9:05 a.m. – Speakers

9:40 a.m. – Drumming

9:50 am – Closing and walk to City Hall’s Keefer Room for the pre-hearing

About the speakers:

Albert Dumont (South Wind) is Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi. He is a spiritual advisor, poet, artist, and activist. He has written eloquently about the spiritual importance of the Chaudière Falls and nearby Islands on his blog:http://albertdumont.com/

Douglas Cardinal, Richard Jackman, Romola Thumbadoo, Lindsay Lambert and Larry McDermott are appellants in the OMB case that opposes the City of Ottawa’s decision to rezone Chaudière and Albert Islands for commercial development.

Shannon Chief is an artist, traditionalist, and researcher of the wampum and histories. She lives on the Anishinabe unceded territory and supports restoring the custom of the Anishinabe Pike Constitution and Sovereign Laws for the Nation.
