Below is a message from Regina Mandamin, who is Grandmother Josephine’s daughter:

“My mother Josephine Mandamin and supporting Water Walkers are currently following the original Anishinabe Migration Route from Matane, QC to Madeline Island, Wisconsin. They have a rest-stop planned for July 12-14 in Ottawa. A Welcoming Ceremony, Teachings and Feast is set for July 13th from 9am-4pm. Their website also tracks their location http://www.waterwalkersunited.com. We are canvassing local organizations to garner your interest in offering support in Feast Food Items to ensure this Gathering’s success and provide a warm welcome for the Walkers on this momentous journey. We also welcome other forms of support (e.g. donations for hotel and gas, via the website).

Feast item ideas include:
– refreshments (juice, water, soda, etc.)
– berries
– wild rice
– corn
– soup
– bannock
– fruit
– veggies, dip
– sandwiches
– side salads (e.g. pasta salad, quinoa, greens, potato, coleslaw, chick pea)
– other items as you wish (e.g. desserts, cheese, cold cuts)
– Our team will provide serving spoons, plates, napkins, cutlery, and cups.

The feast is scheduled for 1:00pm. If you have questions or would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you will be donating food items, if you can indicate which items you will bring this will be helpful in coordinating. This will be such a beautiful demonstration of community support by our collaboration in hosting this Feast as a collective.

In closing, chi miigwetch for taking the time to review and consider our humble request. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. In the meantime, I wish you a lovely weekend!

In Unity,

Regina Mandamin
